Of course not all the horses at Glenshea are retired, some are just coming into working age. My own stock horse filly, at two years old, believes she should always be the centre of attention.

About mid-Spring in 2010 some clients of ours had come to pick up a couple of ponies who had been here for a short stay, when our “Darshelle” decided to put on a display for them.

I had just put her into a paddock with this gorgeous Highland Pony, when she decided to roll in the temporary dam that had formed due to recent rains.

So, rugs and all, down she went, again, and again, and again.

And when she stood up she pawed at the water some more, making the game seem so appealing even the 17 year old Highland Pony joined in.

What a mess, and the rug only a couple of weeks old!

Well, it had to happen eventually… In January 2011 “Sunny” lost the last of his eyesight at the ripe old age of 33. Although he had coped very well with his diminishing sight and various health issues, total blindness was just too distressing for him.

Sunny’s owners and I agreed it was time to say goodbye to this wonderful old horse, whose magnificent nature and extraordinary hardiness had enabled us all to enjoy his company for so long.

RIP Sunny.
